"Resounding Words"

“Resounding Words” is a new kind of song recital, an animated presentation of music and poetry by a singer-pianist duo that explores the way music affects text and verbal images. The recital includes both song performances and text readings, specifically structured to engage the audience in the expressive journey that occurs between spoken and sung words.

The title “Resounding Words” alludes to the many ways in which songs can stimulate our imaginations. First, many of the poems and texts in the recital have “resounded” throughout generations, and song composers have broadened the texts’ circulation by interpreting them with musical language and expressivity. In addition, the music adds specific inflection, pacing, and atmosphere that was not in the text alone, literally “re-sounding” the words. “Resounding Words” is a unique opportunity to listen, examine, and deeply enjoy the repertoire of song with artists committed to its communicative art.

Pianist Alison d’Amato is Artistic Co-Director of Florestan Recital Project and a co-founder of the Vancouver International Song Institute (VISI). A dynamic performer and teacher, Alison is committed to presenting concerts that engage audiences in the themes and cultural contexts at work in compositions, opening the door to connect them to our current culture and experiences.

Program details to come in Fall 2008. For immediate information about the “Resounding Words” project, please contact Alison.
